on October 18, 2021, an 1833 statue of Thomas Jefferson was in the spotlight. on the agenda of a small New York Committee was a proposal for its removal from NY city hall for being offensive. a little known mayoral appointed committee called the NY Public design committee was petitioned by a few NY council members to remove the statue from the city hall council chambers. in the meeting, one councilman expressed wanting to see the statue destroyed. a committee member Suggested the statue be returned to its original position in the governor's room in city hall. The committee voted "yes" for the removal and A motion was put forth to table the statue's final location.
On monday, November 15th, 2021 at their next public meeting, The NY Public design Commission ignored the motion to table the new location of the statue, wrote a resolution behind closed doors, and voted without public comment to hand the statue over to the NY Historical Society.
On Monday, November 22nd, the statue was removed from city hall.
